Cane Toad Time

Well folks it’s come early this year – that’s right it’s Cane Toad Time again.

If like me you have dogs and cats that just seem to love Cane Toads, then here is some information on symptoms of Cane Toad Poisoning that might be useful.

If your dog/cat mouths/bites a Cane Toad, symptoms of poisoning can include;

  Excessive drooling/frothing (hyper salivation)
  Brick red mucus membranes (gums)
  Vomiting
  Shivers / trembling

Okay so what to do next!

  1. Wash your pets mouth out thoroughly with cold water for 5-10mins.
  2. This will help wash away the toxin.
  3. It is important your pet does not inhale the water so point the hose and your pets mouth downwards.
  4. If your pet finds this too stressful use a wet cloth or Chux.
  5. It is important to keep your pet nice and calm.
  6. Next call your local Vet Clinic for advice!
  7. In some cases your local vet clinic will recommend close observation.
  8. In some cases a trip to the vets may be recommended.

Good luck folks. Please feel free to email any hints you have on how to exclude cane toads from your pets backyard.
